Dr. Florian Hertel will take the deputy-professorship for sociology in the coming winter semester 2017/18

Dr. Florian Hertel has been working as an academic employee at the professorship for sociology at the University of Hamburg. His research interests are social inequality and stratification, intergenerational mobility as well as class analysis and deindustrialization. In the coming winter semester he will represent the professorship for sociology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Dr. Alexander Lenger will in the winter semester of 2016-2017 step in as the Professor of the Sociology of Knowledge at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Alexander Lenger has been a research partner in SFB 2015 "Muße" at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Freiburg since 2013, and since 2015 at the Center for Teacher Education at the University of Siegen.

As announced, the turn-in date for term papers has been shifted to September 30, 2016.

Awarding of an Ad-hoc-group at the 38th Congress of the German Society for Sociology in Bamberg on the Issue: Science—A Closed Society?

Together with Angela Graf (TU Munich), Christina Möller (University of Paderborn) and Christian Schneickert (University of Magdeburg), Alexander Lenger will organize an ad-hoc-group for the social unity of science at the coming DGS Congress in Bamberg.
The main focus of the ad-hoc-group will question the meaning and influence of social origin in the scientific field.

Establishment of an Ad-hoc-group on the Issue: The Regulations of Professions and Social Inequality in Germany

For the past few years, as increasing number of findings have been made that analyze the relevance of professional regulation of social inequality. We would like to discuss which specific professional regulations are included, the limits put on other professions, and the roll of collective professional participants that cause and strengthen this.

Dr. Alexander Lenger Steps in as Professor of Sociology of Knowledge

Since 2013, Alexander Lenger has been a research associate in SFB 1015 „Muße“ at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Freiburg, and since 2015 at the Center for Teacher Training at the University of Siegen. Starting in the summer semester of 2016, he will have a professorship for the Sociology of Knowledge at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
 
     
     

Barbara Lange Begins her Four-month Research Stay at Stanford University (CA, USA) at the Center on Poverty and Inequality.

On April 1st, Barbara Lange begins her four-month research stay at Stanford University (CA, USA) at the Center on Poverty and Inequality. It is relevant to her project work on the causes and comparison of changing poverty rates in the USA and Germany, which is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation. The Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) awarded her a grant of 6,700 Euros.

The second workshop of the Research Initiative Occupations and Social Inequality (FiBus) takes place at IAB in Nuremberg, on April 4 - 5, 2016.

The workshop will include talks on the topics of occupation and social inequality, as well as the opportunity to discuss questions, problems and ideas that have emerged from ongoing work on occupational questions.

New Project: The Development of the Gender Wage Gap in Germany

Andreas Haupt has launched a project on the development of the gender wage gap in Germany together with Prof. Susanne Strauß (University Konstanz, Germany). The project is funded by the Elite Program for Postdoctoral Resarchers Baden-Wuerttemberg.

KHYS Networking Grant

December 2015 Barbara Lange is granted the KHYS Networking Grant for the amount of up to 1.500 Euros. This travel subsidy enables her to travel abroad to visit a researcher or working group renowned in her area of expertise and in relation to her doctoral research project for 1 to 2 weeks.  
     
     

FiBus: Research Initiative Occupations and Social Inequality

November 2015 Andreas Haupt is the main spokesperson and member of the founding board of the Research Initiative Occupations and Social Inequality (FiBus). The Research Initiative Occupations and Social Inequality is a platform for researchers concerning the relevance of occupations to inequality. Its main goal is a better network between researchers who are addressing that question.
